The Lighter Side of Christmas Parade began in 1988 as a hometown parade in downtown Woodland Park, CO.
The event was managed for a number of years by the Woodland Park Chamber of Commerce.
In 2000, local residents John and Tracie Bennitt, took over the parade reins. During the last 23 years, a committee of dedicated volunteers has formed to plan and organize the growing event. The LSOC committee meets monthly throughout the year planning the parade and other Holiday Events which takes place during the holiday season. Without the tireless efforts of these volunteers, the parade wouldn’t be enjoyed by thousands, the first Saturday in December each year.
Each year a theme and beneficiary are chosen to best represent that year’s anniversaries and celebrations. Applications are accepted from local non profits and organizations to be considered. Monies raised through sponsorships each year stay local, and help fund these deserving and hard working organizations.
