2023 Theme: “Woodland Park’s Nightmare Before Christmas!
It’s time for the annual celebration of the Lighter Side of Christmas Parade.
This year’s theme is “Woodland Park’s Nightmare Before Christmas.”
We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film! The Lighter Side of Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2023. SOAR is the coordinator of the parade. If you’ve never heard of SOAR, it is an alliance of nonprofits in Teller County. The nonprofits meet monthly for training and then different groups collaborate on fundraising activities. The parade is one of those fundraising events. There are two beneficiaries helping the LSOC to create a memorable parade for 2023. They are the Rotary Club of Pikes Peak and Divide Mountain Girl Scouts.
Past Themes
2022 Theme: “May the Forest Be With You” gives participants an opportunity to celebrate our wonderful backyard, the forest. Several anniversaries this year celebrate the forest including the 80th anniversary of Bambi and the 30th anniversary of Fern Gully. Even more float ideas can grow from the variety of ecosystems in the Stars Wars movies as it celebrates 45 years in a galaxy far, far away.
2021 Theme: “Season’s Readings,” gives participants and opportunity to celebrate the characters and stories in their favorite book. It’s SNOW secret! Books are COOL and tis the season to be reading. It’s also the 100 year anniversary of of Scholastic Books so you have lots of stories to choose from.
2020 Theme: “Soundz of the Season” – As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, last year in lieu of a parade, we produced a virtual holiday concert featuring the Woodland Park Wind Symphony with sponsor logos and holiday promotions. 2019 Theme: “Woodland Park’s Christmas Vacation” – Celebrating the 31st Anniversary of the Lighter Side of Christmas Parade and the 30th anniversary of the classic comedy film, National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation.”
2018 Theme: “Christmas in the Stars” – Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Lighter Side of Christmas Parade and lots of celebrations surrounding space related films.
2017 Theme: “Jingle in the Jungle” – Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the original “Jungle Book” Movie and the 100th Anniversary of the Lions Club.
2016 Theme: “Rockin’ Around Your Favorite Park” – Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service and the 125th Anniversary of the City of Woodland Park
2015 Theme: “Making Children’s Fantasies Come True” – Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Fantasia and the 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis
2014 Theme: “Here Comes the Sun Snow” – Celebrating 50 Years of Beatlemania
